Overview

What this endpoint does

Plates go missing. They get damaged in accidents, replaced during resale, or quietly swapped onto a different vehicle. The chassis number is stamped into the frame, which makes it the identifier that survives all of that.

This endpoint accepts a chassis or VIN and returns the same RC payload as a registration lookup. It is the fallback path for salvage assessment, theft investigation, auction intake, and any case where the number on the plate and the number on the frame need to agree.

Every field is returned structured and timestamped, ready to store against the record it belongs to. Nothing requires parsing a photograph or interpreting free text.
